Gunungan is one of events to thank God (sajen wilujengan) that is specially made
to be served in the nation ceremony (wilujengan negari) every garebeg and maleman/selikuran.
Sesajian gunungan is a sacred ceremony purified by prayers. Therefore, it is
considered to have magical power that is able to reject the bad things. That consideration
is supported by the fact that gunungan uses banguntulak.
The special building to make gunungan is called omah. There are six Gunungan
(omah = a house); gunungan Lanang, Wadon, Gepak, pawuhan. Dharat, Kutug/Bromo.
