During the pregnancy, Javanese people in general only celebrate two traditions, such as Traditional Ceremony of Tradisi Nglimani (5 months of pregnancy) and Mitoni (7 months of pregnancy). Tradition of Nglimani aims to requesting welfare and preventing misfortune and disaster for the future baby and mother.
The equipments are as follows:
- Noble family: tumpeng robyong, nasi kebuli, nasi punar, uler-uleran, ketan
moncowarno, rujak crobo, tikar pontang, and a buffalo.
- Common people: nasi gudangan, nasi ambengan, ordinary rice with serundeng (relish
of grated coconut and spices), tempe, bakmi (noodles), and jajan pasar.
This ceremony is performed when the pregnancy is five months old, held in the afternoon. It is attended by the pregnant woman, the shaman, the elders of the village, friends, close neighbors, and relatives. The ceremony is started with reciting the prayer and all the audience sit cross-legged forming a circle around the meals. There are some forbidden food in this ceremony, i.e. young pinapple, maja fruit, fresh-water fish, and crab.
