Thousands of refugee chose to stay on Hargobinangun refugee camp. This choice was based on the fact that status of Mount Merapi was still on Level 3 (AWAS). However there were some refugee that chose to return to their home and property.

Based on data gathered by GudegNet, May 18th 2006, there were more or less 30 groups of refugee at Hargobinangun refugee camp and the number incrased to 40 groups (2310 people) on May 20th 2006.

The biggest number was on SMP II Pakem more or less 561 people. At SD Purworejo I there were 466 people, SD Purworejo II 275 people, Bale Desa 269 people, and the rest was spread among the villages at Hargobinangun. Whilst, the people who did not join the evacuation were more or less 506 people (data per May 20th 2006).
