12th Yogyakarta Gamelan Festival 2007 taking “Everytime Gamelan“ as the theme. The concerts will be held at Taman Budaya Yogyakarta in July 7 – July 11, 2007 with 2 (two) specific activities:

First,
July 7 and July 8, 2007, we called it with Gamelan Gaul which specialized for the youngsters (education institution from Junior High School, Senior High School and Universities degree). Actually, the first aim is for the proven medium for several youngsters in Yogyakarta which already educated on Gamelan Course and bi-monthly gathering program called Rembug Budaya (has been started from last 2 years ago) which held in several Yogyakarta’s high school. But now, beside the concerts from those several senior high schools, universities (Universitas Gadjah Mada, Universitas Atmajaya, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta) and clubs, we also try to do alternative program, not only gamelan concert.

Second,
for the main festival on this year Yogyakarta Gamelan Festival, which will be held on next July 9 – July 11, 2007. For these short days, we will performing the gamelan compositions of the gamelan players from Canada (Kyahi Madusari, Kenneth Newby & Friends), New Zealand (Padhang Moncar in collaboration with Waldjinah from Surakarta), Japan (Motohide Taguchi), Australia (Sawung Jabo & Friends), Malaysia (Gamelan Ensemble of Universiti Teknologi MARA, Selangor) and Jamming Collaboration with players (personal) from many countries. From Indonesia, the concerts performed by the groups from several cities such as from Pamekasan, Madura (Kabut Hitam), Riau (Gondang Burogong), Bandung (Gamelan Ensemble of Kyahi Fatahillah), Surakarta (LOS), and locally from Yogyakarta (Semekar - SMKI, PPPGK, Gang Sadewa - Institut Seni Indonesia) and many more.

Beside concerts, seminars/presentation will be held in Lembaga Indonesia Perancis (LIP Yogyakarta) in July 7 and July 8, 2007, with the topics:
• 20 Years Gamelan in Vancouver, Canada by Sutrisna Hartana,SKar.
• Cultural Marriage on Visual Music for the Electrical Gamelan by Kenneth Newby & Aleksandra Dulic.

Other activities during the 12th Yogyakarta Gamelan Festival 2007 are gamelan on the air, exhibition and bazaar. Interesting program are gamelan techno with modern dance and others youngsters activities which related with gamelan culture itself (July 7 and 8). The ceremony of Tumpengan will be held in July 5 at Gayam16, Gamelan Talk Show (July 5, 2007) on air in Geronimo FM, talk show on Jogja TV (July 6) and also welcoming dinner for all participants (July 9, 2007) before the main concert started.

Finally, at the end of the concert, will be performed Gamelan Knalpot, the Gamelan meets Motorcycle – pengrawit meets bikers, created by Alex Dea, PhD. The combining of gamelan playing and motorcycles roaring, thinking about pollution, noises and dissipation.

So, come and join with us at the annual event of 12th Yogyakarta Gamelan Festival 2007, an international gathering of gamelan players and gamelan lovers all over the world.

This event organized by Komunitas Gayam16, in cooperation with Taman Budaya Yogyakarta, managed by Gamelan Hangeka Buwana, supported by Blass Group, Geronimo FM, Lembaga Indonesia Perancis, Dinas Kebudayaan DIY and Jogja TV.
